New businesses which are not incorporating may file a Notice of Doing Business Under an Assumed Name with the Register of Deeds.
Assumed Name forms for sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations doing business under an assumed name may be accessed below. The filer is welcome to perform a name search in the register of deeds office in order to verify that the business name is not already being used, but the register of deeds staff cannot perform this search.
Fee for recording an Assumed Name is the same as for other real estate documents: $14 for the first page and $3 for each additional page.
