The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registry Detective received information that registered sex offender David Lynn Bonilla was not currently living at his registered address. Following an investigation, charges were sought against Bonilla for two counts of felony sex offender residence violation, two counts felony fail to notify new address – sex offender, and felony forge/submit false information on verification notice.  The magistrate found probable cause and issued a warrant for arrest for the sex offender registry violations. 

On January 16, 2026, Deputies located Bonilla at a residence on Plummer Street, Asheboro, where he was taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, a firearm was located.  He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served his outstanding warrants as well as a magistrate's order for felony possession of firearm by felon. He received a $100,000 bond on his warrants and no bond due to Iryna's law for the charge of firearm by felon.   

A court date was set for January 20, 2026, in Randolph County District Court.
