Criminal Investigations

Criminal Investigations

The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is responsible for handling investigations into serious crimes. The detectives focus on a variety of crimes that require special expertise or that cannot be completed by the Patrol Deputy taking the initial report.

Detectives follow up on leads, interview informants, suspects, and witnesses to ascertain alibis, clues, time frames, and possible suspects. They search out the full facts of a situation, organize the facts into a logical summary of investigative data into a detailed record of the incident and present this data to the District Attorney's Office.

Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)

This Detective works with the Federal and State agency to track down those predators in our county, state and region. This Detective is partnered with Homeland Security to assist in joint investigations. Homeland Security reimbursed the county for the expense of the computer because of this collaboration and has provided us with the needed tools. They also opened up federal resources to assist in the investigations. This collaboration has been an invaluable asset to the RCSO.

Crime Scene Investigations (CSI)

Crime Scene Investigators (CSIs) - sometimes referred to as crime scene specialists or investigators, forensic science technicians, and crime laboratory analysts - use critical thinking and analytical skills to collect physical evidence, such as hair, bodily fluids, and footprints, from crime scenes. They are responsible for processing and preserving evidence, as well as sharing written documentation and reports about their collections. They use their expertise to testify at criminal trials and help shed light on the events that occurred during criminal activity.

Invictus Task Force

The Invictus Task Force was formed through a unified commitment to protect children and pursue those who exploit the most vulnerable. What began as a collaborative effort among local agencies has grown into a coordinated, multi-jurisdictional partnership focused on proactive investigations and long-term accountability.

This task force brings together investigators, digital forensic specialists, and law enforcement partners who work across county, state, and federal levels. By combining resources, intelligence, and expertise, the Invictus Task Force strengthens the ability to identify offenders, disrupt criminal activity, and protect children both within our communities and beyond.

The work is deliberate and strategic. It requires patience, coordination, and an unwavering focus on victim protection. Every case reflects a shared mission, not only to investigate but to serve, safeguard, and restore trust.  Protecting children takes collaboration. And collaboration is exactly what this task force was built on.

Victim Advocate

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has a Victim Assistance Coordinator (VAC) dedicated to supporting crime victims and their families every step of the way.

The VAC works within the Criminal Investigations Division and partners closely with deputies, detectives, and the Community Resource Officer to make sure victims receive the services and support they’re entitled to.
Support is available by phone or in person—at crime scenes, hospitals, or other locations. During interviews, the VAC provides emotional support and professional guidance to help reduce trauma for victims and families.
The VAC also connects victims with vital resources such as counseling, advocacy programs, and community services, while assisting officers by observing interviews, supporting evidence collection, and helping with investigations when needed.
In court, the VAC may attend certain hearings to support victims, monitor case outcomes, and assist with protective order proceedings (50-B/50-C).
Beyond investigations, the VAC collaborates with local and state agencies including DSS, the Health Department, Family Crisis Center/Emmy’s House CAC, and many other partners to ensure comprehensive care.
The VAC is actively involved in community and state initiatives, including child protection teams, opioid prevention efforts, senior safety programs (SALT), and victim advocacy networks—helping keep Randolph County informed, connected, and supported.
The VAC also provides community education and awareness programs on topics like child abuse prevention, domestic violence awareness, workplace violence prevention, women’s safety, healthy relationships, and more.
Supporting victims. Strengthening the community. That’s the role of the Victim Assistance Coordinator.
