On October 9, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed on Hillsville Rd. with the driver not wearing a helmet. The driver, later identified as William Noel Whittington, immediately began to speed up. Whittington committed multiple traffic violations while traveling in the areas of Rollingwood Rd. and Valley Ridge Dr. As Whittington entered Hillsville Rd. again, the pursuit was canceled.
Deputies then responded to a tip that Whittington had abandoned the motorcycle on Hillsville Rd. and fled on foot. Deputies located the motorcycle and seized it pursuant to the “Run and You’re Done” law. Other deputies located Whittington across the street from his residence and then apprehended him without further incident. He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee to elude arrest with motor vehicle, misdemeanor motorcycle helmet violation, misdemeanor driving while license revoked not impaired, fail to stop sign/flashing red light, reckless driving to endanger, misdemeanor no liability insurance, misdemeanor driving motor vehicle not registered/titled, misdemeanor speeding, misdemeanor fictitious/canceled/revoked registration card/tag, and driving left of center. He was issued a secured bond of $7,500 and a first appearance was set for October 10, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
