On November 2, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Croomcrest Road, Asheboro, regarding a report of a suspicious person in the area walking around the neighborhood and going to people's residences and attempting to open doors. Upon arrival to the area, the deputy observed a vehicle sitting on the shoulder of the road with its lights on. The vehicle began to travel toward the deputy, and he was able to see that the driver matched the description that was given of the suspicious person and conducted a traffic stop. Upon approach, the odor of marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle initially provided false identification but was later identified as Elliot Lionell Goins of GA. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, schedule I controlled substance, multiple individual bags of marijuana, and paraphernalia were located. Goins was placed under arrest and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony identity theft, felony possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver schedule I controlled substance, and misdemeanor possess marijuana paraphernalia. The magistrate set a $5,000 secure bond with a court date of November 3, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
