On July 15, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Mt. View Church Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a possible overdose. Upon arrival, deputies located Brian Thomas Lockhart, who was asleep in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, and were able to wake him. He complied with commands and exited the vehicle. The vehicle had an apparent flat front driver's side tire from where it had struck a rock barrier along the side of a driveway. The reporting party requested the vehicle be towed from the property.
While retrieving his identification, a small bag containing heroin fell onto the ground. Randolph Communications advised he had an outstanding order for arrest, however, Randolph County EMS responded and transported him to the hospital for a medical evaluation. He was informed of the outstanding process and that he would have a warrant for possession of heroin and to turn himself in after he was released from the hospital. Charges were sought for felony possession of heroin and the magistrate found probable cause to issue the warrant.
On November 3, 2023, Lockhart was located by the Criminal Apprehension Team and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served the outstanding process. He was given a $5,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for November 6, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
He was also served his outstanding criminal summons out of Davidson County for misdemeanor no operator license and driving left of center and a court date was set for November 29, 2023, in Davidson County.
