On December 13, 2023, while patrolling the area of US Hwy 220 S, Asheboro, a Randolph County Sheriff’s deputy observed a person and bicycle between trailers at a business and investigated the suspicious activity. The deputy identified the male as Jonathan Cass Carter, who got onto his bicycle and attempted to leave but the deputy confronted him. Carter had items in his possession that were from the property. Cass was detained and additional units responded to assist with the investigation.
Following the investigation, Cass was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of burglary tools and misdemeanor attempted larceny. He was issued a $1,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for December 14, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
