On January 24, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to Creekridge Country Rd., Randleman, in reference to a vehicle theft. Upon arrival, the victim advised that a rental car had been stolen from the driveway and provided potential suspect names.
On January 30, 2024, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office recovered the vehicle in their jurisdiction.
Following an investigation by the Criminal Interdiction Team Detectives, charges were sought against Richard Eric Heaton and Katie Jo Moser for felony larceny of a motor vehicle and felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The magistrate found probable cause and issued the warrants for arrest.
On February 5, 2024, Moser was located, arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where she was served her warrant. The magistrate issued a written promise to appear on March 11, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
On February 7, 2024, Heaton was located by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, arrested and transported to the Moore County Detention Center where he was served his warrant. The magistrate denied bond and a first appearance was set for February 15, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
