On February 9, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to Broad St., Seagrove, in reference to larceny/theft in progress. Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect, identified as Max Gray Harris, still inside the business and was detained for investigation. During a subsequent search, it was determined that Harris was concealing unpurchased items in his pockets along with cocaine. The items were returned to the store. Harris was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor shoplifting concealment of goods. He was issued a $2,500 secured bond and a first appearance was set for February 12, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
