During routine patrol on February 1, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office observed a suspicious vehicle parked to the side of a business on US Hwy 64 W., Asheboro. Upon approach, the driver was identified as Brandon Alexander Thompson and paraphernalia was visible inside the vehicle. The passenger was identified as Amy Garner West.
During a subsequent search, several articles of contraband were recovered. Evidence collected during this incident was submitted to the state crime lab for testing.
On February 25, 2024, charges against both Thompson and West were sought. The magistrate found probable cause to charge Thompson with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of a schedule IV-controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of a schedule VI-controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia and issued a warrant for his arrest. A criminal summons was issued against West for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
On March 10, 2024, Thompson was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served his outstanding warrant. He was issued a $20,000 secured bond, and his first appearance was set for February March 11, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
