On April 20, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Surrett Dr., Trinity. During the investigation, Communications advised that the passenger, identified as Philip Wade Lawton, had an outstanding warrant for arrest out of Davidson County. He was placed under arrest. During the search to arrest, methamphetamine was found in Lawton’s possession.
During a consensual search of the driver, who was identified as Cody Allen Trivett, methamphetamine was located in his possession and he was also placed under arrest. A citiation was issued to Trivett for driving while license revoked and the fictitious registration plate. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, paraphernalia was located.
Lawton and Trivett were transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia against both.
Lawton received a written promise to appear in Randolph County District Court on April 29, 2024.
He was also served his outstanding warrant from Davidson County for felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of schedule VI controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor carrying a concealed gun. He received a $1,500 secured bond and a court date of April 24, 2024, in Davidson County District Court.
Due to Mr. Trivett being out on pretrial release, he received a no-bond. A first appearance was set for April 22, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
