On May 12, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Welborn Rd., Trinity, after several calls to 911 about shots being fired in the area. While enroute, Communications provided updated information from calls that the subject was believed to be traveling up and down Welborn Rd. in a silver vehicle and possibly discharging a firearm. Upon arrival, a vehicle matching the description was observed and a traffic stop was conducted. While the driver was being detained, a rifle was observed in the passenger side floorboard. The driver was identified as James Dallas Irwin, a convicted felon. He was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of a firearm by felon and misdemeanor injury to personal property. The bond was set at $5000 secured and a first appearance was set for May 13, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
