On May 30, 2024, while conducting a license checkpoint, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputies observed a vehicle stop just in sight of the checkpoint, turn around, and head in the opposite direction. Due to the nature of the incident, a deputy caught up to conduct a traffic stop.
Upon approaching the vehicle, multiple occupants were observed in the vehicle. Additional deputies responded to assist. Drug paraphernalia was observed inside the vehicle and all occupants were instructed to exit the vehicle. Methamphetamine and paraphernalia were located in the possession of Thadeus Jimmy-Dean Upchurch. He was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a $5,000 unsecured bond and a first appearance was set for June 24, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
