On July 27, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team, Highway Unit, conducted a traffic stop for minor violations on I-85 in Archdale. During the stop, a probable cause search was conducted, and detectives located and seized cocaine, a firearm along with ammunition and drug paraphernalia. The driver of the vehicle, Leon Williams Phillips, Jr., of Virginia, was placed under arrest and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, misdemeanor possess drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor carrying a concealed gun. The magistrate issued a $75,000 secured bond with a first appearance set for July 29, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
