On August 13, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registry Detective did an address check at the registered address for Jimmy Lee Burgess. During the investigation, it was determined that Burgess no longer lived at the address as of late June but had failed to notify the Sheriff’s Office of a change of address within three business days as required by law. Charges were sought against Burgess for felony failure to report a new address – sex offender and a probation violation order for arrest was also issued.
On August 27, 2024, Burgess was taken into custody by NC Probation and Parole Officers and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served the warrant. He was issued a $10,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for August 28, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
He was also served the outstanding orders for arrest for felony probation violation and received an additional $5,000 secured bond and a court date was set for September 3, 2024.
