On July 12, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Zoo Patrol responded to the North Carolina Zoological Society's Finance Office in reference to fraudulent activity.
Following an investigation, charges were sought against Tamarcus Ja’Quan Moore, who had purchased gift cards online that the cardholder reported as fraudulent charges to the bank. The magistrate found probable cause to issue a warrant for arrest for felony obtaining property by false pretense.
On August 29, 2024, Moore was located in Stanly County, arrested, and transported to the Stanly County Detention Center where he was served his warrant. He was issued a $3,000 secured bond and his court date was set for September 23, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
