On September 20, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on W. Dixie Dr., Asheboro. Upon the approach to the driver’s side, the driver was identified as Bryan Lee McWhorter who has a suspended driver's license and is on probation for Failure to Register as a Sexual Offender in Randolph County. He was issued a citation for Driving with a Suspended License. During a subsequent search, a firearm, methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and counterfeit currency were located.
The passenger was identified as Savannah Ellyn McLeod, who had an Order for Arrest for Misdemeanor Larceny out of Randolph County.
Both were arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for the following:
McWhorter: felony possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver methamphetamine, felony maintain vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held without bond due to pending charges.
McLeod: felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of schedule IV controlled substance, and felony possession of 5+ counterfeit instruments. She was issued no bond.
A first appearance was set for September 20, 2024, for both in Randolph County District Court.
