On November 22, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to McClintock Rd., in Climax, in reference to a possible location of a reported stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, the vehicle was located in the driveway with two occupants. The driver was identified as Jonathan Charles Toomes, and the passenger was identified as Coty Ryan Hartsell.
During a search of the vehicle, before it was returned to the owner, an illegal substance and paraphernalia were located. Toomes and Hartsell were arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hartsell was also served with an outstanding warrant for arrest issued by the Asheboro Police Department for the theft of the vehicle and the felony possession of the stolen motor vehicle She received a $25,000 total secured bond and a first appearance was set for November 25, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
Toomes was served with three outstanding orders for arrest (felony probation violation and failures to appear on misdemeanors) and received no bond due to being out on pre-trial release. His first appearance was set for November 25, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
