On the evening of Thanksgiving, November 28, 2024, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a reported home invasion on Walt Brown Rd. in Bennett, NC. The 76-year-old caller reported that an unknown Hispanic male entered his back door and was armed with a machete. The assailant brandished the machete and threatened him, his wife, and his granddaughter. The family retreated further into the residence and barricaded themselves in another room while the assailant remained inside the home. Upon the deputies' arrival, the assailant fled on foot down Walt Brown Rd. The deputies located the assailant and attempted to detain him when he produced a knife and began advancing toward the deputies. The deputies were able to take the assailant into custody safely. The assailant refused to provide his name and stated only that he goes by "Kevin The Cowboy." He was charged with felony first-degree burglary, felony breaking and entering with intent to terrorize, misdemeanor communicating threats, misdemeanor second-degree trespassing, and misdemeanor resisting a public officer. "Kevin The Cowboy" is currently being held without bond as "John Doe" at the Randolph County Detention Center.
