On February 26, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hopewell Elementary School regarding a trespassing incident. Photographs of the suspect were obtained from the school. Deputies followed up on leads and canvassed the adjacent neighborhoods near the school to no avail.
Later in the day, deputies identified the suspect as Neal Allen McMann, who had a Parole Violation through the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and was wanted. He was a post-release supervision absconder out of Davidson County. The search continued throughout the day and into the evening.
Shortly after 11 pm, deputies patrolling the area observed a male subject walking in the area of Meadowbrook Drive matching the description of the images provided. During a consensual encounter with the deputies, he initially denied being McMann. During the attempt to place him in handcuffs, the male pulled away and began to fight with the deputies. After a brief struggle, he was detained. During a subsequent search, methamphetamine and paraphernalia were located.
McMann was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony Possession of Methamphetamine, misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Misdemeanor resisting a public officer. He was issued a $10,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for February 27, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
He was also served an outstanding Post-Release Commission warrant by NC Probation and Parole for absconding supervision out of Davidson County. McMann will be under no bond in this matter until a preliminary hearing is held within 7 days.
On February 27, 2025, charges were issued against McMann for misdemeanor first-degree trespassing enter/remain and misdemeanor breaking or entering regarding the Hopewell Elementary incident and the magistrate found probable cause. He was served this process and issued an additional $5,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for February 28, 2025, in Randolph County District Court on these charges.
Additional Deputies and School Resource Officers (SRO) are present at Hopewell Elementary for enhanced security measures.
Randolph County Schools has issued an official notification to McMann prohibiting him from being on any properties belonging to the county school system.
