On May 6, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Crutchfield Ctry Rd., Libery, in reference to a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, the Liberty Police Department had arrived and detained a possible suspect, identified as Cody Walter Swaim, who had set items on fire on the property.
Following the investigation, Swaim was taken into custody and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony burning personal property and misdemeanor breaking or entering. He was given no bond due to being out on a pending charge. A first appearance was set for May 7, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
