On June 18, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team Urban Unit was in the area of Mt. View Church Rd. following up on an investigation. A traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle, and upon catching up with the motorist, the vehicle drove into a driveway and accelerated, failing to heed lights and sirens. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Jonathen Hughes Pemberton, fled on foot into the woods. A foot chase ensued; however, Pemberton was quickly apprehended and placed under arrest.
Pemberton was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and misdemeanor resisting a public officer. No bond was issued due to the pre-trial integrity act, and a first appearance was set for June 20, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
