On June 26, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to US Hwy 64 E, Asheboro, regarding a vehicle theft that had just occurred. The Criminal Interdiction Unit responded to the scene with the patrol division. Surveillance footage was located and collected. The suspect was subsequently identified as William Anthony Muckenfuss. Responding Deputies located the stolen vehicle a short time later near his residence. Muckenfuss was also located and taken into custody at his residence. During the search incident to arrest, fentanyl and paraphernalia were located. He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony possession of a stolen vehicle, felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a $10,000 secured bond with a first appearance set for June 27, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
