On July 24, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on E. Dixie Dr., Asheboro. The motorcycle failed to stop, and a chase ensued onto US Hwy 64 E, traveling eastbound. The driver made multiple U-turns on US Hwy 64 and eventually continued west back into Asheboro city limits. The driver veered right onto E. Salisbury and took additional side streets, with law enforcement later losing sight of the motorcycle. Multiple Asheboro Police Officers and Sheriff’s Office Deputies circulated the area, locating the motorcycle parked behind a residence on Brewer St., Asheboro, along with a male identified as David Malcolm Saunders. He was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, drive/allow motor vehicle no registration, speeding, and driving left of center. Saunders received a $5,000 secured bond, and a first appearance was set for July 24, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
