On September 1, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a larceny of rented equipment reportedly from a job site in Randolph County.
During the Criminal Investigations Division Detective’s investigation, it was learned that the lift was equipped with a GPS monitoring device while working with the vendor’s asset protection team. They provided detailed records of the equipment’s route of travel and current location. It was determined the equipment never went to any sites in Randolph County. Detectives requested assistance from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia where the equipment was showing to be. They located and took possession of the stolen equipment for return to the vendor. The additional victim in VA advised that the equipment was purchased from two subjects on August 25, 2024, on Gate City Blvd. in Greensboro. The lift had been listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The victim paid for the equipment and obtained a bill of sale.
Following the investigation, charges were sought on Janique Keonta Williams for felony obstructing justice and felony obtain property by false pretense. The magistrate found probable cause for the charges and issued a warrant for arrest.
On August 8, 2025, Williams was located in Guilford County, arrested, and transported to the Guilford County Detention Center, where he was served his warrant and issued a $15,000 secured bond. A court date was set for September 15, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
