On August 27, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Fairwood Dr., Trinity, in reference to a vehicle theft. The reporting party, Meagan Lynn Goins, stated that her pickup truck had been stolen. After further investigation by the Criminal Interdiction Team Urban Unit, it was discovered that the vehicle had not been stolen, and documents showing her ownership had been falsified. The pick-up truck in question was located at its rightful owner's residence in Davidson County.
As a result of this investigation, Meagan Lynn Goins and Cody Nathaniel Severt were placed under arrest and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for the charges, as follows:
Goins was charged with felony attempt to obtain property by false pretense, felony uttering a forged instrument, and misdemeanor false report to police station. She was denied bond, and a first appearance was set for August 28, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
Severt was charged with felony accessory after the fact and felony attempt to obtain property by false pretense. He was given a $3,000 secured bond, and a first appearance was set for August 28, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
