On November 27, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of I-74 east bound near the 84 mile marker in reference to a reported assault in progress involving a male and a female. Upon arrival, the deputy encountered a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway, a male subject got out of the vehicle, and multiple vehicles stopped in both lanes behind this vehicle. While attempting to detain the subject the deputy met resistance and deployed less-lethal options to gain compliance. Once the subject was detained he was identified as Kevin Lamont Alston.
During the investigation, it was determined that the female victim was seen getting into another vehicle and leaving the scene.
Prior to the male being apprehended, he was seen discarding unidentified objects over the guardrail. K9 Bronx was deployed and successfully found the items. These items were confirmed to be illegal substances.
Alston was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver cocaine, two counts of felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance, felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver schedule I controlled substance, misdemeanor resist public officer, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He received no bond due to him currently being out on pre-trial release. A first appearance was set for November 28, 2025.
