On May 29, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on I-73 near exit 82. Upon approach to the passenger side, the passenger was identified as Rachel Nichole Grace and the driver as Brandon Tyler Perdue. Communications advised that Perdue’s license was suspended and had an active order for his arrest out of Guilford County for failure to appear. Grace had an active order for arrest for felony probation violation out of Chatham County and was placed under arrest. Perdue was issued a warning ticket for the infractions.
While Perdue was exiting the vehicle for arrest, deputies observed a bag in the driver's floorboard area containing a crystalline substance. During a subsequent search, methamphetamine and paraphernalia were located. Both were transported to the Randolph County Detention Center. While enroute to the Detention Center, Perdue reported having additional illegal substances hidden in his possession. Upon arrival, Perdue was searched and additional items were retrieved.
Perdue was taken before the magistrate, who found probable cause for the following charges: felony possession methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession schedule IV controlled substance, simple possession marijuana, and misdemeanor possession drug paraphernalia. Perdue received a $2,500 secured bond with a court date for Randolph County District Court on May 30, 2023. He was also served his outstanding order for arrest out of Guilford County and received a $480 secured bond.
Grace was served her outstanding order for arrest and received a $10,000 secured bond.
