On June 1, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Erect Road, in Seagrove, in reference to a suspicious person. The caller advised there had been ongoing issues in the area and suspected the person to be Joshua Wayne Jordan, who had four outstanding orders for arrest.
Upon arrival to the area, the deputy located a vehicle parked off the road, in a field, and began checking the immediate area on foot. The vehicle registration did not come back to Jordan. Another vehicle approached to advise that they had observed a male walking toward Trinity Church Rd. carrying a gas can. The deputy proceeded to that area and observed a male matching the description given and was able to positively identify the subject as Jordan. The deputy exited his vehicle to speak with Jordan and advise him of his outstanding processes. During the conversation, the deputy asked Jordan about the vehicle and Mr. Jordan stated that it was his vehicle. During the encounter, Jordan became extremely nervous and started walking backwards, trying to create distance from the deputy. The deputy gave commands to stop, but Jordan was uncooperative and did not stop. Several seconds later, Jordan turned around and fled south on foot on Erect Road and a foot chase ensued into a thick wooded area. Due to not knowing the area and extended response time for back up, the deputy ended the pursuit and returned to his vehicle and the unattended vehicle in the field.
Additional units arrived to patrol the area and a search was conducted in the wooded area.
The property owner requested the vehicle be towed and an inventory was conducted; paraphernalia was located.
Another subject stopped and reported seeing a suspicious person on a lawnmower in the area. Deputies diverted to that area to see if the subject on the lawnmower was Jordan. They located the subject, riding the lawnmower on Erect Road near Maness Road, and identified him as Jordan. He was taken into custody and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served his outstanding processes and charged with misdemeanor resisting public officer. He was issued an $80,000 total secured bond. A first appearance was set for June 2, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
During the investigation of the lawnmower, it was determined that the lawnmower had been stolen from Maness Road, Seagrove, and was returned to the property owner.
The deputy then proceeded to the Randolph County Magistrate's Office regarding other offenses pertaining to this incident. The magistrate found probable causes for charges of felony larceny after breaking or entering, felony possession of stolen goods, felony breaking and or entering, misdemeanor resisting public officer, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor injury to personal property. A warrant was issued. Currently confined in the Randolph County Detention Center, he was served his warrant and received an additional $25,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for June 5, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
