On June 14, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a welfare check on a male subject in vehicle at the BP on Old NC 49. During the encounter, the driver, later identified as Kevin Tristan Hulin, displayed signs of impairment. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, cocaine and paraphernalia was located. Hulin was placed under arrest and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate, who found probable cause for felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Hulin received a written promise to appear and a first appearance was scheduled for July 10, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
