On May18, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle theft that had already occurred on Davis Country Rd., Randleman. During the investigation, Jonathan Charles Toomes was developed as a suspect.
Following an investigation by the Criminal Interdiction Team – Urban Unit, a warrant was sought for Toomes for felony larceny of a motor vehicle and the magistrate found probable cause to issue.
On May 22, 2023, the stolen vehicle was located and returned to the owner; however, items were missing from the vehicle.
On July 5, 2023, at approximately 12:14 a.m., deputies located Toomes at a residence on Jesse Small Rd., Randleman hiding under a stairwell. He was placed under arrest. While searching his person, methamphetamine and marijuana were located.
He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served with an outstanding order for arrest for failure to appear on a felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and the outstanding warrant for arrest for felony larceny of a motor vehicle. He was given a $5,000 secured bond on the order for arrest and a $30,000 secured bond on the warrant for arrest. The magistrate also found probable cause for charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana and given an additional $2,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for July 10, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
