On July 23, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fight in progress involving multiple subjects on Shady Grove Church Rd., Staley, where a rodeo event was being hosted on the property. Upon arrival, the deputy was directed to the arena where multiple people were interviewed included an injured male and female subject. Randolph County EMS responded to evaluate the injured. The assailants had left the event.
On July 24, 2023, as a follow up to the investigation, deputies met with the victims who were able to provide medical records for the injuries incurred. Following the investigation, charges were sought against David Tapia for felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and Omar Tapia for misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury. The magistrate found probable cause and issued the warrants.
On July 27, 2023, both Omar Tapia and David Tapia reported to the magistrate’s office to turn themselves in. They were served their warrants and the magistrate issued both a written promise to appear on August 21, 2023, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
