On August 1, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office deputy was approached inside a business on E. Dixie Dr. regarding a passenger vehicle sitting at a gas pump for approximately 45 minutes. The deputy approached the female driver, later identified as Jasmine Sharnae Bennett, who was slumped over in the vehicle. The deputy was able to wake Bennett and conduct an investigatory interview. During the investigation, Bennett turned over illegal narcotics and paraphernalia to the deputy. Additional deputies responded to assist with a subsequent search, which revealed additional narcotics.
Bennett was released for medical treatment. The deputy sought warrants against Bennett for felony possession of methamphetamine, felony maintain dwelling for controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of schedule II controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of schedule III controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of schedule IV controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Later in the day, on August 1, 2023, Bennett was served the outstanding warrant at Randolph County Detention Center for this incident. The magistrate issued a written promise to appear in Randolph County District Court on August 21, 2023.
