On August 10, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office observed a passenger car travelling at a high rate of speed northbound on Farmer Rd. that matched the description of a suspect vehicle in an area agency’s earlier pursuit. Deputies followed the vehicle but the driver continued to accelerate. A traffic stop was initiated when the driver failed to stop at the stop sign at the US 64 on-ramp onto Albemarle Rd. and continued toward NC HWY 49. Deputies were able to block the driver from entry onto US Hwy 49. The driver attempted to reverse the vehicle backing into the push bumper of a patrol car. Then he attempted to drive forward. At this point, a deputy exited his vehicle and issued commands. The driver complied with commands and placed the vehicle in park. He exited upon the deputy's commands and was placed under arrest. He was identified as Latrevius Kewaun Luck, who did not currently possess a driver’s license. During a subsequent search, marijuana and paraphernalia were located. Luck was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony assault with a deadly weapon against a government official, misdemeanor driving while license revoked- not impaired, misdemeanor possession marijuana up to ½ oz., misdemeanor flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle, fail to yield for stop sign, reckless driving – wanton disregard, fail to heed light or siren, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia, He was issued a $15,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for August 10, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
