On February 17, 2024, Lashanda Kay Schwarcbher, was arrested by the Criminal Apprehension Team on Robbin Lane, New London, NC. She was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where she was served her outstanding warrant and issued no bond. A first appearance was set for February 19, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
The victim, identified as Billy Glenn Medford, Jr., 45, succumbed to his injuries on today's date.
This investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.

On February 16, 2024, at approximately 4:17 am, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to Oakland Ave., Asheboro, for a reported hit-and-run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Upon arrival, deputies observed an unresponsive male subject lying on the ground and the driver of the vehicle had fled the area. EMS responded and the victim was airlifted to an area hospital. As of the time of this report, his current condition is unknown.
Following the initial investigation, charges were sought against Lashanda Kay Schwarcbher, aka Lashanda (Lashonda) Kay Hicks, for felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury and the magistrate found probable cause and issued a warrant for her arrest.
