On March 4, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to US Hwy 64 Bypass at the request of NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) in reference to an agency assist regarding a domestic situation. Upon arrival, deputies observed a white male subject, later identified as Zachary Michael Paulson, who appeared to be on an impairing substance. While checking on the passengers of the vehicle, cocaine and paraphernalia were located in the driver’s area. One of the passengers had visible signs of being assaulted.
NCSHP issued a citation to Paulson for driving while intoxicated and no operator's license.
Following the investigation, Paulson was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for the charges of felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor assault on a female, misdemeanor resist/delay/obstruct, and misdemeanor maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance. He was given no bond and a first appearance was set for March 5, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
