On March 26, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to US Hwy 64 E, Ramseur, for an assault in progress call for service. Upon arrival, Dominick Lynn Sloan threatened to harm law enforcement while investigating the incident. After completing the investigation and leaving the scene, deputies obtained a copy of a social media live video posted by Sloan that he had made threatening the deputies with a weapon as they were returning to their vehicles at the conclusion of the call. Charges were sought for misdemeanor communicating threats and the magistrate found probable cause to issue a warrant for arrest and a search warrant for the property since a judge had issued a protective order on March 14, 2024, which included that Sloan was not to have firearms and ammunition in his possession.
On March 29, 2024, deputies executed the search warrant at the residence. Upon Sloan’s arrival at the residence, he initially refused to comply with the instructions given but was soon taken into custody on the warrant for arrest. During the search, ammunition to firearms was located which violated the protective order issued. He was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony domestic violence protective order violation (f) and misdemeanor resisting public officer. He was also served the outstanding warrant for arrest for misdemeanor communicating threats and issued a 48-hour domestic hold. A first appearance was set for April 1, 2024, in Randolph County District Court. Following the 48-hour hold, the magistrate set a $20,000 secured bond due to the evidence presented regarding the threats.
