On April 27, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Quaker Drive in reference to a domestic assault. Upon arrival, the victim stated that Robert Gregory Herring, Jr., had arrived at the residence unannounced requesting to retrieve an item that belonged to him. The victim stated she did not invite him in and only spoke to him through the door. When she returned from retrieving the item, he had somehow entered the residence and was standing inside. She stated that when she attempted to get away, he blocked the doorway and assaulted her. She was able to activate the SOS feature on her Apple Watch but he ended the call. He then left the residence before law enforcement's arrival. There were visible injuries and EMS responded to evaluate the victim.
Warrants for arrest were sought and the magistrate found probable cause for felony breaking and entering with intent to terrorize/injure, misdemeanor false imprisonment, and misdemeanor assault on a female.
On May 6, 2024, Herring was located by the Asheboro Police Department in their jurisdiction, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served the warrant and denied bond at that time due to the charges being domestic in nature. A first appearance was set for May 7, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
