On June 24, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle sitting on property known to be vacant and conducted an investigation. During the investigation, deputies encountered Michael Steven Sturgill and discovered that he had an outstanding Civil order for arrest for child support. During a subsequent search, methamphetamine and paraphernalia were found. He was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Sturgill was out on pretrial release for a charge out of Guilford County and received no bond from the magistrate on these new charges. He had purge amount on his civil order and was held in custody on both. A first appearance was set for June 25, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
