On June 23, 2024, members of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office were conducting a license-checking station at the intersection of Old Cedar Falls Rd and Henley Country Rd. when they observed a vehicle turn around to avoid the encounter. A deputy initiated a traffic stop on Old Cedar Falls Rd., but the vehicle continued to flee. Deputies observed the vehicle turn into a driveway on US Hwy 64 E. Jameal Shufon Matthews was detained for further investigation.
Following the investigation, Matthews was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee/elude arrest w/ motor vehicle and driving while license revoked - impaired revocation. He was issued no bond due to currently being out on pre-trial release. A first appearance was set for June 24, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
