On August 4, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on US Hwy 64 E., just prior to E. Presnell St., Asheboro. Upon approach, the driver was identified as Robert Norman Yates. During a subsequent search, an illegal substance and paraphernalia were located. Yates was released at that time pending further investigation.
On October 17, 2024, charges were sought against Yates for felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia. The magistrate found probable cause to issue a warrant.
On November 2, 2024, Yates was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served with his warrant. His release was not authorized and a first appearance was set for November 4, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
