On May 17, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Lanes Mill Rd., Bennett, in reference to a burglary in progress call. While en route, the caller advised Communications that he awoke to the smell of smoke in the home. Upon arrival, fire personnel were already on scene. The nature of the call was changed to “fire (residential)” after determining no burglary had occurred.
While continuing the on-scene investigation, the Fire Marshal’s Office advised that they would also be conducting an investigation. Based on the totality of circumstances and the evidence on the scene, Edith Yessenia Molina was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center. During the investigation, it was discovered that Molina had an outstanding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement warrant for deportation.
The magistrate found probable cause for felony first-degree arson and felony burning personal property. She was served with her outstanding warrant. She was issued no bond, and a first appearance was set for May 19, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a detainer on Molina.
