On August 4, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to NC Hwy 42 S., Asheboro, in reference to a trespassing call. While on scene, the complainant also reported a vehicle missing from the property.
Following an investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle had been scrapped in July, and further investigation led to a handwritten bill of sale by Mersadies Layne Clinard Primm claiming it as her vehicle.
Charges were sought against Primm for felony obtain property by false pretense, felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and felony larceny of a motor vehicle.
On August 13, 2025, Primm was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where she was served her warrant and issued a $3,000 secured bond. A first appearance was scheduled for August 14, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
