On August 14, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team Highway Unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop on I-85, Archdale, for speeding. The driver refused to stop, and a vehicle chase ensued. The driver continued to drive carelessly and recklessly as they continued on I-74. A short time later, the vehicle came to a rest near the Pineview Exit after a successful spike strip deployment. The driver, Phillip Douglas Gee of Mount Pleasant, NC, was placed into custody.
Gee was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for the charges of felony flee to elude, misdemeanor hit and run, careless and reckless, and DWLR non-DWI revocation. He was given a $10,000 secured bond with a first appearance set for August 15, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
