On August 20, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team Urban Unit conducted a traffic stop on NC Hwy 49 S., Asheboro. During the course of the traffic stop, a subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted. Methamphetamine, Suboxone, and drug paraphernalia were located and seized.
As a result, William James Blackburn was placed under arrest and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center. The magistrate found probable cause for the charges of felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor simple possession of a schedule III controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia. He was given no bond due to having pending criminal charges, and a first appearance was scheduled for August 22, 2025, in Randolph County District Court. During his first court appearance, his bond was set at $5,000 secured.
