On September 28, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bumpass Rd., Staley, in reference to a burglary that had already occurred.
Following an investigation by the Criminal Interdiction Team Urban Unit, charges were sought against Christopher Scott Tarpley for felony breaking and/or entering, felony larceny after break/enter, felony possession of stolen goods/property, two counts of felony obtain property by false pretense, and misdemeanor injury to real property. The magistrate determined that there was probable cause for the charges and subsequently issued an arrest warrant. Detectives later recovered the stolen property.
On October 2, 2025, the Criminal Interdiction Team Urban Unit, along with the NC Department of Adult Corrections, located Tarpley in Staley, NC. Tarpley was placed into custody and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served with his warrant. He received no bond on these charges due to the pre-trial integrity act, and a first appearance was scheduled for October 3, 2025, in Randolph County District Court. He was also served with an order for arrest for felony probation violation out of Chatham County. He was issued a $10,000 secured bond with a court date scheduled for October 6, 2025, in Chatham County Superior Court.
Following an investigation into an larceny incident reported on October 1, 2025, the Criminal Interdiction Team Urban Unit sought additional charges against Tarpley for felony obtain property by false pretense, felony break/enter motor vehicle with theft, and felony possession of stolen goods/property. He was served while still confined at the Randolph County Detention Center. The magistrate issued a $12,500 secured bond, and a first appearance was scheduled for October 7, 2025.
