On January 3, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on I-85 just prior to exit 106. During the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Lynchburg, VA. The driver initially gave a false name but was later identified as Deondre Michael Smith. Lynchburg Police Department advised that a firearm was also stolen with the truck. It was located during the search of the vehicle following the arrest.
Smith was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for the charges of felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony possession of a stolen firearm and misdemeanor resisting an officer.
Smith had multiple Orders for Arrest out of Wake County for failure to appear and one warrant for arrest out of Wake County for assault on a female, communicating threats, and common law robbery.
He was given a total of $140,000 secured bond and no bond for the warrant out of Wake County. A court date was set for January 5, 2026, in Randolph County District Court.
