On January 15, 2026, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report in reference to child neglect.
Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were pursued against Cassandra Leanne Sanders for felony child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury, along with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse. The magistrate determined that there was probable cause and subsequently issued an arrest warrant.
On February 17, 2026, Sanders was apprehended during a traffic stop on US Hwy 220 Bus. S. and taken into custody. During the arrest, illegal substances and paraphernalia were discovered in her possession. She was then transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where she was served with her warrant and an outstanding order for arrest due to failure to appear in Davidson County. No bond was set for her, and a first appearance was scheduled for February 18, 2026, in Randolph County District Court regarding the initial charges. Additionally, she was served with a probation violation and assigned a secured bond of $10,000. A secured bond of $18,000 was also issued for the Failure to Appear on a Felony, with a court date set for March 2, 2026, in Davidson County.
The magistrate established probable cause for felony possession of fentanyl, felony possession of heroin, felony possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. No bond was granted for these charges.
