On May 13, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Fairview Farm Road, Asheboro, in regards to a theft/larceny. The victim explained that an unknown suspect(s) took a Honda side by side, described as primarily red in color with a black in color utility dump bed. Additional items were in the utility bed.
The victim provided images from surveillance cameras with depictions of the suspect and a suspect vehicle. The photos were posted on social media asking the public for help in identifying the subject(s) and locating the items.
On May 14, 2023, a citizen reported observing seeing the vehicle in a field on NC 62. Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to that location as well as deputies from Guilford County for investigation and confirmed the vehicle was the same. The vehicle was seized for further investigation.
Surveillance footage was obtained from a business in the area, which displayed a male entering the store at 8:26 am. The store clerk stated that the male asked for a chain because "he got his four-wheeler stuck." A Guilford County Deputy was able to identify the male as Bryce Joseph Rhew.
While still at the business, the deputies observed Rhew walking down Appomattox Rd. towards the vehicle. They approached Rhew and questioned him about the vehicle; he provided information for the location of the side by side. Rhew had an outstanding warrant for possession of stolen motor vehicle out of Guilford County; therefore, Guilford County placed him under arrest and transported him to the Guilford County Detention Center.
Randolph County Deputies sought charges on Rhew for felony larceny and felony possession stolen goods/property in regards to the stolen property from Fairview Farm Rd. and the magistrate found probable cause to issue. Guilford County deputies served the arrest warrant while processing Rhew. The Guilford County magistrate issued a $5,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for June 5, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
Detectives and CSI executed a search warrant on the vehicle and processed the items in the car.
The investigation is ongoing.
