On June 29, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a license check at the intersection of Caraway Mountain Road and Old County Farm Road. During an encounter with one a driver, deputies noticed the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. During a subsequent search, marijuana and paraphernalia were located in the possession of Dwayne Emilio Rivera. While searching Rivera's person a large amount of US currency was located. Rivera was arrested and transported to Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He received a $50,000 secured bond with Electronic House Arrest as a condition of release. A first appearance was set for June 30, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
